A martini is a glamorous accessory at a party, but drink too many and you might wind up with a un-fabulously flabby midsection. Unfortunately for most New Yorkers (even ab-obsessed ones), a night out just isn’t complete without a cocktail—or four. We asked Charles Stuart Platkin, founder of the Diet Detective (dietdetective.com), to calculate the caloric content of some of our favorite specialty drinks and the number of minutes at various tasks it would take to burn those calories off. Then we enlisted Lashaun Dale, national creative director of group fitness at Equinox, to create some Sunday workouts for counteracting intense Saturday nights.—Emily Weiner

The workout
This drink was so calorie-loaded that Dale recruited Equinox instructor and fitness guru Steve Feinberg to devise a workout for it in two parts. First, spend 35–45 minutes performing vigorous aerobic exercises like suicide runs or shadowboxing, taking short breaks in between. In phase two, “Spend a few minutes performing a freely flowing, movement-rich warmup, incorporating dance or martial arts.” Then begin a five-round training circuit as follows: bench press, front-loaded squat, standing dumbell bent-over row and single-legged dead lift. -
