Organized annually by Munhwa Ilbo Daily, the Kimchi Expo aims to promote the outstanding qualities of kimchi throughout the world and raise its competitiveness through the development of Korea's kimchi and fermentation-related industry and higher quality standards.
The festival is the first kimchi-related trade fair to promote the scientific effects of kimchi and its role in developing a healthy society. This Expo, poised to become an international kimchi culture festival, ushers in a new era for the domestic kimchi industry.
Festival Programs: The Kimchi Expo exhibits Korea's traditional, functional, or newly-developed kimchis as well as a variety of fermented foods, traditional seasonings, salted seafood, and other health foods. Various styles of kimchi refrigerators and new kitchen tools will also be displayed at the 200 or so participating booths. The special exhibition pavilion will showcase traditional food favorites.
Main events include the Kimchi Hope Relay (kimchi will later be distributed to North Korean defectors, the homeless, and physically challenged people). The Korean Kimchi Industry Revitalization Seminar will include discussions on the prospects and development of the domestic kimchi industry. The Kimchi History, Kimchi Application, Traditional Experience, Fermentation Science, and Health Diet pavilions and other event sites are sure to attract the interest of visitors.
During the festival, a ceremony will be held to present awards in recognition of those corporations, groups, and individuals that have contributed to the industrialization, advancement, and higher quality standards of Korean kimchi.
Festival Highlights: The Kimchi Expo is a great showcase of the Taste of a Thousand Years and the excellence of Korea's staple food kimchi. The first 500 people to register for the event will be presented with free kimchi. Free participation in the seminars will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Also, the first 100 people to attend the Kimchi and Fermentation Industry Presentation Meeting will take home a free 2.5kg container of local kimchi.
