Procedures and Manuals

Reference manuals, procedural manuals, or handbooks are being developed as companions to Director's Orders by offering comprehensive guidance on managing, preserving, and protecting the natural resources found in the national parks. Reference Manual #77, Natural Resource Management, serves as the primary source of this guidance. It covers a broad range of topics from soil resources management to backcountry recreation management to environmental compliance. This reference manual is being rewritten and is a work in progress. Some sections have been finalized, but additional sections will be added in the future.

More detailed guidance on specific topics is also being developed. The box to the right contains links to natural resource manuals and handbooks that are available. Guidance on other topics planned or under development will be added to this website when finalized.
