Internships in the Parks

We invite you to internship in some of the most beautiful areas of the country. Internships can provide learning opportunities through activities such as wilderness revegetation in the 877,000 acre wilderness of Olympic National Park, assistance with the native cutthroat trout preservation and restoration project at Yellowstone National Park, water quality or piping plover monitoring at Assateague Island National Seashore, serving as a crew member in the Spotted Owl Survey Program at Crater Lake National Park, helping to restore the ecological integrity of three unique watersheds that are home to several endangered species in Golden Gate National Recreation Area, giving educational cave tours at Wind Cave National Park, or assisting the resource management staff at Point Reyes National Seashore in all aspects of science, inventorying, and monitoring.

Many parks and central offices offer opportunities for Internships. Unfortunately, a centralized list of internships is not available. If you are looking for an internship in a park, we suggest that you select one or more parks that interest you and contact them directly. Information on how to contact a park is available on each park's web site.

While there is no centralized list of available internships, some internship programs are available. They include:

National Park Service Social Science Program Graduate Student Internships. These are available in Washington, DC. As a graduate student intern with the National Park Service (NPS) Social Science Program, you will work with the Visiting Chief Social Scientist and other program staff on research and technical assistance projects that deliver usable knowledge to NPS managers and the public. You can learn first-hand how the NPS operates and carries out its mission, gain practical experience, and develop valuable job skills.
