...The freshly emerged adults often form large feeding swarms in open areas before flying south ahead of the arrival of cold weather. Unlike resident species of dragonflies, they do not over winter in the mid-Atlantic region and therefore are truly migratory. Only the numerous empty shells of the discarded larva skins remain behind until a new wave of dragons return in the spring.
