June 25, 2007
This week in the magazine, in “The Anti-Gravity Men,” David Owen writes about the structural engineer Cecil Balmond and his London-based firm, Arup, which helps architects and artists execute their ideas. The firm has offices in thirty-seven countries, and during the past twenty years Balmond has collaborated with Philip Johnson, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind, James Stirling, Ben van Berkel, Toyo Ito, and other celebrated architects. Here is a portfolio of images of Arup’s collaborations.
