CALIFORNIA V. JOHNSON
In a trial aired on Court TV, daycare provider Suzanne Johnson was accused of murder when six-month-old Jasmine Miller died while in her care. An autopsy showed that the infant suffered a fatal skull fracture. The defense suggested that Jasmine died from a preexisting injury not caused Johnson. The jury deadlocked during Johnson's first trial. Johnson's retrial originally set to begin November 9, 1998, has been rescheduled for January 19, 1999.

TEXAS V. NEVILLE
In February 1998, relatives of Amy Robinson reported her missing. The mentally retarded 19-year-old was last seen riding her bicycle to work. Several weeks later, police arrested Robert Neville, Jr. and Michael Hall, two self-described white supremacists whose confessions led authorities to Robinson's body. Robinson had been kidnapped and shot to death. Now Neville could face the death penalty for murder. The defense is expected to claim mental illness. This trial is scheduled to begin November 30, 1998.

TEXAS V. JEFFERSON, ET AL.
Prosecutors are trying to force gang out of a neighborhood in Austin, Texas. Police say the defendants are members of the Crips who allegedly operate an "open air drug market" near Austin's Windsor Park neighborhood. The judge in this case has signed a temporary restraining order and an injunction limiting the gang members' freedom. The jury will decide whether the injunction will be permanent. Proceedings in this trial are scheduled to begin November 9, 1998.

WASHINGTON V. JENNINGS
Johnny Lee Jennings was charged with felony harassment after he allegedly used a racial slur against an African-American man during a pick-up football game. Jennings denies using the slur and says threats and angry words are commonly used during athletic events. The defense also argues that words alone do not constitute a crime. If convicted, Jennings could face between 12 and 14 months in county jail. He is scheduled to go to trial November 9, 1998.

MISSOURI V. REVELLE
In 1996, George Revelle was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the 1994 murder of his wife. Prosecutors argued that Revelle, a bank executive, was bankrupt and murdered his wife for her $500,000 insurance policy. The defense claims burglars broke into the house and killed Revelle's wife. Revelle's conviction was overturned on appeal, and now he will be retried. The second trial was scheduled to begin October 13, 1998, but a mistrial was declared during jury selection. A new trial date is tentatively Dec. 2, 1998.
