Chat Transcript: Lynne White on 'United 93'

Court TV Host: Chat with Hollywood Heat host Lynne White. Discuss movies, celebrities and cultural trends.

Court TV Host: And if you'd like to follow up on anything Lynne chatted about the last time she was here, click here.

Court TV Host: Lynne, thanks for being our guest today.

Lynne White: Thank you, hello, everyone, went to the Tribeca Film Festival last night for Hollywood Heat and did the red carpet for the movie United 93. Tough movie for some to watch. Did not see it, and won't. Will you?

Question from eagle900: Why won't you see it?

Lynne White: I think it's a bit exploitive of peoples' feelings and emotions. So many of us lived through the horror of 9/11, and it would be too painful to relive it Hollywood-style.

Question from kiara: Lynne_White, I might see that movie...do any of the profits go to the relatives of victims?

Lynne White: Good question, and the answer is no. A small per cent goes to a memorial fund but the majority goes to the people who made the film, this is wrong.

Question from kiara: Lynne_White, didn't the families of the victims approve?

Lynne White: Some did and some didn't. I interviewed some family members last night. A few thought it would bring them closer. I thought it just made them feel more inclusive in the Hollywood process and that's why they were willing to go along. Some families want nothing to do with it.

Question from MsEvAnGELisTeA: It's an historical fact...A&E produced the first one. Why not watch?

Question from EMPRESSEMPERIAL: Lynne, I watched the Flight 93 movie they had on A & E / history channel. It was acted out very well, made you proud of the AMERICANS on that flight.

Lynne White: I know but I think that was a docu-drama, very different from this. In fact, in this there was no script, the actors were given the information. They processed it, and then they acted whatever they wanted to using some flight recorder data and brief phone message transcripts. So what you see is not fact but the actors' renditions of what they thought could have happened.

Question from tribe: I agree with you, I would not expect anyone close to the victims to allow their plight be turned into profit-making entertainment...as it has. But I do understand some family members approve of it.

Lynne White: I do too and whatever makes them happy after what they have gone through is a good thing. I am sorry overall I find it exploitive and disturbing.

Question from SteveBaxley: Are you surprised at the response "United 93" has gotten, even BEFORE the Tribeca Film Festival last night ?

Lynne White: I am surprised that a filmmaker would venture down this path so quickly after the tragedy. I think more time should have elapsed before a movie like this was made

Question from Cosmo: I am married to an air traffic controller. I can tell you, this movie bothers them very much, not just the families.

Lynne White: I know it bothers so many people who were victimized in so many ways. It also makes the fact that we do not have al Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden in custody all the more irritating, I think the chapter on the story needs to be closed before we let Hollywood producers attempt to tell any part of the story.

Question from SteveBaxley: Lynne, with some controversial movies, there have been those "fringe groups" trying to ask theatres not to show these type of films -- has there been any word whether any theatres plan to not show "United 93"?

Lynne White: No, I think where there is money to be made people will make it. Also remember our first amendment rights in this country; you can show anything We just don't have to pay our money to see it

Question from Cosmo: Yeah they got the story wrongask them if they saw the data that was sealed from the tower.

Lynne White: Probably not, and that is really bad.

Question from Cosmo: Have you talked to air traffic controllers?

Lynne White: No, and I would like to, could you give me your contact info? Would your husband be willing to talk about it?

Question from Cosmo: No sorry......it's against gov't rules to give out that info.

Lynne White: Understood, and really appreciate your input here today.

Court TV Host: And now one non-"Flight 93" question...

Question from SteveBaxley: *gives Lynne a dozen roses* Lynne, first, good job on the best picture predicts, but now a question: do you think, after Oscar, that we are seeing a shift in the way Hollywood makes its movies now , or is it more status quo?

Lynne White: I think whatever makes money Hollywood will do. I still think America loves real life: witness reality TV, so look for more real to life stories.

Court TV Host: Thanks, Lynne!

Lynne White: Thank you, and thanks for watching Court TV and Hollywood Heat.

Court TV Host: Come back soon!
