DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER BORN #6

From Marvel

The end begins here with Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born #6, the penultimate chapter of the groundbreaking Marvel Comics limited series, adapting the classic Stephen King story. The Affiliation, a force of men gathered by Roland’s father, advance further into the Shaved Mountains, however unbeknownst to them, Farson and his Coffin Riders have lured them into a trap. Now, with Hambry’s oil powering the Old Ones’ weapons, the Affiliation stands to be wiped out unless Roland can get there in time. Writers Peter David and Robin Furth, and series artist Jae Lee and Richard Isanove bring you another issue of the acclaimed limited series that has the critics buzzing.

Richard George of IGN.com says “I’m mesmerized,” and calls Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born a “masterpiece”.

Luke Paton of SilverBulletComicbooks.com calls Jae Lee and Richard Isanove’s art “fantastic… Each panel is so meticulously detailed and beautifully rendered that you could just look at them all day.”

Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born #6 will also feature a stunning variant cover by Greg Land and fans can also expect to see more exclusive behind the scenes pages, as featured previous issues of Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born. This series is like crack for a comic and DT fan - just unfrakkingly awesome both visuals and storyline. Wizard & Glass was my 2nd favorite book - but this has propelled it to the top. I know PAD plays down his role somewhat but this is just another reason why I follow his work - a superbly well crafted production. The time I have invested in reading the main story and all the background filler info - just more junk for this junkie...

Finally an iconic cover! Not a big fan of the last two covers (Walter doing the HANG TEN DUDE pose and the Witch Rhea cover, who is uglier than Rosie O Donnel), but Susan has never looked better.

(Okay, maybe in the last issue when she was buck naked and the tree branch was covering her delicates and what not.)

I am a big DT fan, but am bored with this series, in part because Wizard and Glass was the only DT book i didn't like, in part because it's just a poorly paced comic. The last issue was drowning in narration, not what we expect from PAD, and i think it's because Jae Lee's art, while pretty, is static and needs PAD to talk a lot.

I am part of a group of DT fanatics, and most of them hate this series. They don't like anything, not the art, or the script, and they are sure that PAD is to blame and is getting everything wrong. Trying to tell them that he's one of the greats of the comic game is useless. Trying to remind them that King has power over the comic is useless. And I suspect that the majority of DT fans who are not comic book fans feel the same way.

Wish there were more backgrounds... other than that, the book is beautiful.

Lol didn't Jae say a long time ago backgrounds weren't important? I agree it's the notable flaw in his work but his stuff looks so great I don't care. Great production value in the comics of today.
