THE HARRY KREMER AWARD
FOR OUTSTANDING CANADIAN COMIC BOOK RETAILER

Now you can nominate your favourite comic book stores for the 2007 Harry Kremer Award for Outstanding Comic Book Retailer!

The Retailer Award is named in honour of Year 1's honourary Retailer Award winner, the late Harry Kremer. Harry was the co-founder and owner of Kitchener-Waterloo's history Now & Then Books, one of the very first comic book shops in North America. In 2006 the award was one by Halifax, Nova Scotia's STRANGE ADVENTURES.

In 2007 the award will go to the owner(s) of one of the many Outstanding comic book stores in Canada. Do you think the comic book shop you go to regularly is one of the best in Canada? Let us know about it and nominate it for a Shuster Award today!

In the online ballot you will be asked to (optionally) provide the name of the retailer you buy your comic books from on a regular basis. A second question will ask you whether or not you would like to nominate that store for the Kremer Award. The stores that are nominated will be considered by the Retailer Award judging committee.

GUIDELINES

Honouring the best Comic Shops in Canada.

Named after the late Harry Kremer of Now & Then Books in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, this award is given to a Canadian retailer following in Harry's footsteps of enthusiastically and tirelessly promoting the comics medium in Canada.

Guidelines for nomination eligibility:

- The nominated Canadian retailer must have been in business for at least two years.

- Retailers, comic professionals and fans alike may nominate a store.

- A panel of Shuster industry judges will select a group of finalists from the nominees. The finalists will be subjected to an in-depth examination based on the award criteria outlined below.

- Going forward, a 10-year period must pass before previous winners will be eligible again for nomination.

Harry Kremer Award criteria:

Once a store has met all of the above eligibility criteria, the winner will be selected based on the following:

- Knowledge/Customer Service: Knowledgeable management and staff who work to actively keep informed on the comics medium. Providing courteous service, and offering customers helpful recommendations and resources (eg. Through such things as store newsletters, flyers, website, blog, etc.).

- Quality of store image. Must maintain a clean, professional, well-maintained store --- both inside and out. Each nomination must include a minimum of 3 photos of store, one of exterior and two interior shots depicting innovative displays, signage and/or store design. (Note that digital photos and/or VHS or DVD videotapes can be submitted).

- Support a wide variety of material. Making a concerted effort to stock a diverse inventory of comics and related material.

- Community outreach. Promoting comics to the community, sponsoring/holding events and signings, having relationships with local schools, libraries, businesses and arts organizations.

- Adherence to standard ethical business practices.

Nomination Period:

The deadline for nominations is MAY 11TH, 2007. Entries must be postmarked or emailed by no later than midnight on this date to be eligible.

All entries should be accompanies by 3 stores images (as detailed in the award criteria). These photos may be hard copies, digital photos, VHS videotapes, or DVDs. Digital photos should be in JPEG, GIF, or TIF format and must be 500 K or less in size.

The Joe Shuster Awards is not responsible for lost, incomplete, late or misdirected entries.

Notification

The retailer award will be presented at the Shuster Awards ceremony, taking place in Toronto on Saturday, June 9th. Hosts for the event will be Rob Salem and Rick Green.
