Former Backstreet Boys/N’ Sync Boss Busted in Bali

Lou Pearlman’s life on the lam has come to its sad, predictable close: he was picked up by Indonesian cops yesterday at a tourist resort in Bali. For viewers at home who are just tuning in, Pearlman had fled the country after the FBI alleged that he bilked investors – many of them Florida retirees – in an elaborate Ponzi scheme

As you all know, the Police are on the cover of our current issue, which is on stands everywhere today. Their trio’s third ever Rolling Stone cover comes on the heels of their recently announced reuinion, which all of us had hoped for but no one thought would ever happen. Our editors summed up the scenario in one lonely cover line: “Their Fragile Truce.” We challenge you to do us one better with your own snappy headline. Ready? Go!

“OK Computer” Turns Ten, Moby’s New Record Deal, Akon Writes Apology Song

  • Moby has signed a new U.S. record deal with Mute. Moby’s old U.S. label, V2 folded last year, leaving the singer homeless. Mute puts out Moby’s albums everywhere but the U.S., so the decision to sign with them here as well made sense. “A: I live a few blocks from Mute U.S headquarters, B: the people at Mute U.S. are my friends, and C: the people at Mute U.S are smart and love music,” the star explained.
  • Tomorrow (June 16th) is the ten year anniversary of the release of OK Computer. The now classic album was released in the UK first, then, a few weeks later it came out in the states (on July 1st) and scored the band their highest debut at that time when it landed at #21 on the charts. Happy anniversary OK Computer!
  • Madonna has come in at a staggering #3 on Forbes’ annual Celebrity 100 list, which ranks the most powerful celebrities in the world. Oprah and Tiger Woods are the only ones ahead of her, and Madge beat out the Rolling Stones (#4) as well as Elton John (#7,) Jay-Z (#9,) Bon Jove (#18,) and U2 (#22).
  • Check out Akon’s new track “Put The Blame On Me,” in which he apologizes for “things that I’ve done; things that haven’t occurred yet; things they don’t want to take responsibility for.” Someone’s feeling guilty for all the bad things he’s done.
  • Guitar Hero III will be released early next year and it will feature another kick ass soundtrack including songs by Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, the Beastie Boys, Kiss, and Weezer among others.

Lil’ Bush: Exclusive MP3, Plus Video With Iggy Pop

Last night Comedy Central premiered “Lil’ Bush,” an animated send up of our 43rd president, starring, among others, Iggy Pop as the voice of Lil’ Rummy. In each episode, Lil’ Bush and his band dress up like one of a handful of famous rock bands and perform a song. We got our hands on a particularly amusing clip of Lil’ Bush channeling Axl Rose with Lil’ Cheney on drums. We also have an exclusive MP3 of “The Decider,” a track that appears in next week’s episode “Nuked.” All the music played by Lil’ Bush’s band is written by Chris Phillips from Squirrel Nut Zippers (don’t pretend you don’t remember them) and the lyrics by Donick Carey, the show’s creator/writer.
