Welcome to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus!

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB, or NAS of Belarus) is a higher state scientific organization of The Republic of Belarus, a country in the middle of Europe. NAS of Belarus is reported to the President of the Republic of Belarus, accountable to the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus and carries out organization, realization and coordination of fundamental and applied scientific research and developments in the main directions of natural, engineering, social sciences, the humanities and arts with the purposes of scientific maintenance of economic, social and cultural development of the Republic of Belarus, and also carries out, accordingly to the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" and its own Statute, some functions of a republican body of state management.

Established on January 1, 1929 under the name of The Belarusian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has became the guiding research center of Belarus, which unites the highly-skilled scientists of different specialties and dozens of scientific research organizations. As of 01.01.2006, the staff of the Academy and the subordinated institutions have included some 15,310 researchers, technicians and supporting personnel. There are about 560 Doctors of Sciences (equivalent to Prof.) and 1,975 Candidates of Sciences (equivalent to Ph.D.) among them.
