The Police Are on the Cover of Rolling Stone!

the police rolling stone

We’re stoked to announce that The Police will be gracing the next cover of Rolling Stone. The issue, which hits stands Wednesday in N.Y. and L.A. and Friday everywhere else, features an in-depth interview with the band conducted by David Fricke. In celebration of this extremely exciting issue, we’re unleashing an arsenal of Police items. Check back later this week for a retrospective Police photo gallery, a behind-the-scenes video from the cover shoot shot by Stewart Copeland’s son, an excerpt of the cover story, and the chance to write your own cover lines. This issue of Rolling Stone is also the first ever to be printed on carbon-neutral paper; it features a special report on the global climate crisis that includes a profile of Al Gore, a detailed examination of the effect of George W. Bush’s presidency on the global warming crisis and a proposed solution written by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Ask A Rock Star: Will You Get An iPhone?

Gabe Saporta Patrick Stump Adrian Young

Later this month Apple will release it’s latest nifty gadget, the iPhone. We asked everyone from No Doubt’s Adrian Young to Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship if they’re planning to buy one.

  • Adrian Young: “I really want one, but I just got the newest BlackBerry. After five hundred bucks, it feels kind of stupid to drop another five hundred bucks on a phone when I already have everything I already need. My guess is that there may be a couple of glitches in that first generation, so maybe I’ll get the second generation, once they get it right.”
  • Gabe Saporta: “Fuck that, that looks so stupid dude. The reason you see everyone using the Sidekick is because it has a big-ass keyboard. How are you gonna type on an iPhone? It’s not gonna work bro, the touch screen is gonna suck. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, but it’s gonna be a big toy. If you wanna do email, it’s not gonna be good for it — you need to have buttons, you can’t just use a touch screen because your fingers will miss the keys. But I mean, I’ll try it out — I’m not gonna judge it until I try it out.”
  • Cobra Starship guitarist Ryland Blackinton: “BlackBerry for life, you know what I’m saying? I use a Mach3 razor. I use Old Spice deodorant. And I use a BlackBerry and I’m never changing. I just got one in January, and I’ve never had e-mail in my hands. All my young kids will make fun of me when I’m older, but I don’t care. I’ll be the most efficient, best-smelling, cleanest shorn brother.”
  • Fall Out Boy vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump: “I’m waiting for them to make an Apple Rotary Phone. I’m holding out, so I’m not getting an Apple phone until I see that.”

Rolling Stone’s Ten Best Songwriting Duos Ever

Lennon/McCartney

You guys had a lot to say about this weekend’s rock list. After digging through hundreds of nominations, we decided to focus on artists who were widely recognized as songwriting duos, as opposed to those who’ve occasionally written some good tunes together, or who wrote together primarily as part of a larger group. That means we left off Page and Plant, one of your most frequent nominees, because John Paul Jones had a hand in so many great Zep songs. So, without further ado:
1. Lennon/McCartney
2. Jagger/Richards
3. Strummer/Jones
4. John/Taupin
5. Marr/Morrissey
6. Becker/Fagen
7. Garcia/Hunter
8. Waits/Brennan
9. David/Bacharach
10. Lieber/Stoller

Dave Navarro And Perry Farrell Talk Jane’s Addiction Breakup, Is A Kate Moss vs. Amy Winehouse Feud Inevitable? And More

  • It’s looking doubtful that Jane’s Addiction will ever reform again, based on the ongoing war of words between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro. Navarro has taken issue with some comments in Farrell’s blog stating that Navarro’s ill-fated turn on the Rock Star: Supernova TV show led to the demise of Jane’s. Navarro instead blames Farrell for the band’s second demise. Either way, at least we’ll be spared from another Strays.
  • Speaking of rock feuds, the impending Kate Moss vs. Amy Winehouse battle is off the charts in tabloid appeal.
  • We were wondering why our grandmas like Neon Bible: Watch two members of the Arcade Fire subliminally promote their new-ish album on The Price Is Right.
  • Keith Richards claims he’ll perform in a wheelchair if he has to, rendering all future Rolling Stones Farewell Tour rumors meaningless.
  • Is Christina Aguilera pregnant?
  • Check out the M.I.A.’s MS Paint-happy video for “Boyz.”
