Lori Balkus-Mosquera: lore@mich.com (email)
33988 Orangelawn, Livonia, MI 48150 USA
Surname(s): BALKIEWICZ/BALKUS
Region(s) Lithuania/Vilnius?
Religion Roman Catholic
My fathers last name was BALKUS, but it was spelled BALKIEWICZ on his birth certificate. B. January 29, 1924 as CHARLES BALKIEWICZ, in Detroit, Michigan. His fathers name was also Charles, and his mothers name was CHARLOTTE. I do not know his mothers maiden name. I only know that Charles and Charlotte immigrated to America from Lithuania in the early 1900s. My father was born in Detroit in 1924. Charlotte also had a daughter, Valerie. Both Charlotte and Valerie died, and somewhere between 1930 and 1935, Charles Balkiewicz remarried. My father was 'removed' from his home, and spent the rest of his childhood living with relatives in and around the Detroit area. These relatives are not 'blood' related, but close friends. ADOMITIS is one last name of a 'friend' of the family he lived with.
I'd just like ANY information ANYONE can supply? Especially from people living in Lithuania today, who share the BALKIEWICZ last name?

Michael FENIK/FENYK left Vilshany for the USA, arriving in New York, New York in 1913. After Michael's birth father, Theodore, died his mother, Annie BOHURSKI, married again to a Michael FENIK, who was probably a brother of Theodore and there were several other children from that marriage. Young Michael had at least two brothers, John and Peter, from Annie's first marriage. Sofia BRACIO/BRACHU left Krasiczyn for the USA, arriving in New York, New York, in 1924. Her father, Michael, had come to the USA in 1903 but apparently returned to Krasiczyn about 1911. Sofia had a sister, Maria, who came to the USA in 1910 and a brother, Michael, who came to the USA in 1913. Maria married a William TYHACZ stayed in New York. Michael married in New York but apparently returned to Galicia with his family about 1920. Sofia BRACIO and Michael FENIK/FENYK married in 1917 in New York and lived there until 1929 when they moved to Somerset Co., New Jersey.
Any help regarding either Michael FENIK/FENYK and/or Sofia BRACIO's heritage will be appreciated.
