Ants Antson, born in Tallinn, was the best speed skater of Estonia, but because Estonia was a part of the Soviet Union at this time, he could never compete for his home country. His great year was 1964, when he became European champion, Olympic 1500 m champion, set a World Record on 3000 m (4.27,6) and he was awarded the "Oscar Mathisen Trophy". He fell on the 500 m in the World Championships, and probably lost the title because of that.
Highest rank on the Adelskalender: 4 (1964)
