DrugScope's Information and Library Service, is staffed by qualified professionals and handles many enquiries from a wide range of occupations and disciplines. This includes researchers, students and those involved in treatment, education, housing, criminal justice and healthcare services, as well as the general public.

Our aim is to provide access to information and resources on drugs, drug misuse, and related issues. As a user of the ILS, whether in person, by telephone, email, or online, you will find a range of services and resources to support your information needs.

Web based resources

  • DrugSearch, an online encyclopaedia of drugs and their history, effects and the law
  • Helpfinder, a database of drug treatment services in England, Wales and Scotland
  • DrugData, a searchable database of over 100,000 records of drugs literature in the English Language
  • Library Latest, Monographs and Grey Literature: bulletins listing latest books, journal articles and reports.
  • Pathfinders: information tools that direct you to key resources
  • Reading Lists on popular topics
  • A guide to key journals in the drugs field, held in the library.


Reference Library

This comprehensive English language collection includes:

  • Monographs, journals, and reports from the UK, Europe and around the world, spanning more than four decades.
  • ‘Grey literature’ and many hard to find items, such as local reports, leaflets, educational materials and policy documents.


Library visits
DrugScope Library is open for research, by appointment only Monday to Friday, with hours by arrangement (please allow at least 24 hours notice). Group visits can also be arranged, see group bookings.

  • DrugScope members can visit free of charge
  • The rate for non-members is £7.00, (£3.50 unwaged/students)
  • Self service photocopying facilities available at 10p per A4 page.

Research services
Searching for information can be a time consuming and complex business. We offer a professional literature research service. This provides a bibliographic list of materials relating to your chosen subject. Fees for this service are charged on an hourly basis: at £10.00 for DrugScope members and £12.00 for non-members.

We also provide a Document delivery service that enables you to order material from the library collection by post (subject to current copyright law). Costs, per item, are as follows:

UK: Non–members £5.00; Members £4.00
International: Non–members £8.00; Members £7.00
And are inclusive of postage and packing.
