CRS reports for Congress on First Amendment topics
Note: The Congressional Research
Service is a branch of the Library of Congress that provides nonpartisan
research to the U.S. Congress. First Amendment Center Online compiled this
section from public records posted to the Web by individual congressmen. This is
the first time that CRS reports on First Amendment topics have been collected
online. Reports will be added as warranted. CRS may update these reports from
time to time; every effort will be made to present the most recent
versions.
Campaign finance
- Campaign Finance Bills in the 107th
Congress: Comparison of S. 27 (McCain-Feingold), H.R. 2356 (Shays-Meehan),
H.R. 2360 (Ney-Wynn), and Current Law
- Campaign Finance Regulation Under the First
Amendment: Buckley v. Valeo and Its Supreme Court Progeny
- Note: CRS also has produced a video related to campaign finance. From an
item posted at http://www.goldsteinhowe.com/blog/:
"Campaign Finance Law and Litigation September 16, 2003 Product No:
MM70053 This program provides an overview of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform
Act (BCRA), also known as "McCain-Feingold," and the pending Supreme Court
litigation, McConnell v. FEC, where plaintiffs are challenging the
constitutionality of key BCRA provisions. Related Supreme Court decisions are
also discussed, including the recently decided Beaumont v. FEC, upholding the
prohibition on contributions by tax-exempt corporations. Taped as part of the
American Law Division's Federal Law Update series."
Because CRS furnishes materials only to members of Congress,
individuals should contact their representative or senators about obtaining a
copy of this video.
