Georges-Pierre Seurat (1859-1891)
Seurat was born in Paris and died at the age of 31 in Paris. With his first big work, Bathing at Asniéres, he laid the cornerstone of his very individual technique. His new method of painting, called "Neo-Impressionim," strives for a systematization of the Impressionist technique by reducing the many colors perceived in nature to their component elements of pure color and by arranging these pure colors on the canvas in tiny dots such a way that the colors are blended on the retina of the onlooker's eye.
