III Considerations While Traveling with Children

All minors, 18 years of age or younger, traveling within Bolivia, unaccompanied or accompanied by only one parent, must travel with a travel permit, issued by Bolivian authorities.

Travel abroad for a minor must be authorized by Bolivian authorities in the following cases:

  • When the minor or teenager travels with one parent only, an authorization from the other parent is required. If the other parent is absent the Bolivian authorities may demand a guarantee from two people who reside in the same city where the paper work is done.

  • When the minor or teenager travels without the parents, an authorization from both parents is required. If one of the parents is absent the same procedure, as described above, will be requested.

  • However, Bolivian citizens under 18 years of age are required to comply with the corresponding authorizations, including males with Military Service ID and single mothers.

  • In the case of orphans or adopted minors, the legal guardian or institution in charge is the indicated entity to grant the corresponding authorization before Bolivian authorities.

  • When traveling with both parents, no authorization is required. Parents need only to show the proper identification documents of each parent as well as that of the minor.

Foreign Minors are Subject to 2 Requirements:

  • If the minor resides in Bolivia, he/she is subject to Bolivian Laws and must comply with the same regulations as its citizens.

  • If the foreign minor does not reside in Bolivia and his/her stay in the country is less than 90 days, a travel permit is not required to leave the country.

Adult Passengers Traveling with Infants:

  • One adult is permitted to travel with a maximum of two infants, of the adult fare for one of the infants while complying with the Bolivian regulations established for minors.

Groups with Minors:

  • For Lloyd Aereo Boliviano, S.A., to accept a group of minors between 5 and 12 yrs. of age, it is required that the person accompanying the minor be of legal age so that he/she/they may travel with the group and supervise the minors.

  • It is necessary that a companion be assigned for each group of 10 minors, adding an extra companion for each group of 10 more minors.

Unaccompanied Minors:

  • Children over 12 years of age will not be accepted for travel as unaccompanied minors. Rather, these minors will be counted as adults traveling with permission from parents or guardians.

  • Children under 5 years of age will not be accepted for travel as unaccompanied minors. They must travel with a supervising adult.

IV Passengers with Severe Physical Challenges or Severe Illnesses.
Severely handicapped or extremely ill passengers must travel with their doctor and must fill out a confidential form provided by LAB personnel so that any necessary precautions for the client’s well-being and comfort may be accommodated.

General Rules

  • The crewmembers will be informed about any special attention that must be provided for these challenged or ill passengers.
  • The passenger must show a Doctor’s Certificate specifying the general medical condition as well as the passenger’s capability to travel in the plane.
  • Passengers with infectious diseases will not be allowed to travel.
  • Passengers with psychiatric disorders, who are unconscious, or have multiple trauma, are post-surgical, or require medical care will not be allowed to travel unless supervised by the accompanying physician.

  • These passengers will be transported to the aircraft in a wheelchair or under the care of a designated LAB official.
  • Passengers can be accompanied by their guide dog, the guide dog is required to wear a collar and muzzle.
Passengers in Wheel Chairs

  • LAB provides wheel chairs, upon request, for passengers to be escorted onboard. The employees at the check-in counter will accommodate this service.

Groups of Passengers with Severe Mobility Difficulties

  • The Passenger should always be accompanied by a qualified person, designated by those responsible for the group traveling.
  • In the case of a sport organization, the authorized doctors will evaluate the circumstances to determine the appropriate number of escorts.
Passengers on Stretchers

  • During the flight, there must be at least one professional medical person assisting the stretcher patient with his/her needs.
  • The passenger on a stretcher will only be accepted for flight upon confirmation of an ambulance waiting at the arrival destination. It is the sole responsibility of the family or escort to assume responsibility for the arrangements of ambulance services.
  • While waiting for a connecting flight, the passenger on a stretcher will be escorted to the medical service area of the airport.
  • The passenger must show a doctor’s certificate specifying the general medical condition and indicate if he/she is able to travel. The forms for the ill passenger provided by LAB Airline must be properly filled out by a medical doctor.
  • The Stretcher Passenger must pay for 6 spaces on national or international flights.

V Pregnancy Regulations.

Pregnant women are permitted to travel up to their sixth month of gestation. After the sixth month of pregnancy, IATA recommends no air travel.

Beginning the seventh month of pregnancy, if travel cannot be postponed, the passenger must comply with the following requirements:

  • Beginning the seventh month of pregnancy to the end of the eighth month of pregnancy, a doctor’s certificate must state that the pregnant woman is in adequate condition to travel. This is MANDATORY.
  • During the ninth month of pregnancy, a doctor’s certificate must state that the passenger is authorized to travel on the precise dates stated on the certificate.

VII Elder Passengers.

In Bolivia, the law designates a preferential attention for elder passengers. Passengers over 60 years of age are offered a preferential treatment by LAB in reference to:

  • Minimal standing and waiting in line. Elders will be invited to proceed directly to the LAB counter and will not have to wait in line.
  • Seats will be assigned in the first rows.

For elder passengers who need to be escorted, there will be a service to transfer offered by an LAB associate. The elder passenger must show the following at the counter:

  • A doctor’s certificate and, if necessary, the person traveling with the elder passenger.
  • Wheel chair service is available upon request.

VIII Group Travel Specifications.

Groups of 10 passengers or more will receive special attention at the LAB counter. It is recommended that there be a group leader or travel agent present who coordinates these preferential attentions.

It is also suggested that the group arrive at the airport earlier than regular passengers one hour earlier than flight time, this will allow passengers to be offered adequate and professional attention for their group.
