LISTEN UP: Bomb. Repeat. Bomb.
    tedleo.jpg
  • Forkcast has a Ted Leo track that sounds nothing like a Ted Leo track. He still hates the war and it still rocks… but it’s a different kind of rock. I think I love it. I think.
  • Noel Gallagher says that if he went solo he’d be bigger than Elvis. The Music Slut posted a great Oasis track that makes it hard to disagree.
  • The Passion of the Weiss had 30 thoughs during a recent Camera Obscura show. The thoughts weren’t as good as “Lloyd I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken”.
  • Veritas Lux Mea posted tracks by The Shins and We Are Scientists for you to enjoy.
  • And finally, Funeral Pudding has a handful of tracks by The Joggers. If you’ve never heard them, now’s the time to give them a chance.

LISTEN UP: Cast No Shadows
    groundhogday.jpg
  • Bag of Songs is celebrating Groundhog Day by posting shadowy songs by Oasis, Rufus Wainwright, Joni Mitchell and a couple of other artists.
  • I can’t wait for the new Kings of Leon album. Thankfully, Neiles Life posted a live EP of some old tracks to tide me over till April 3rd.
  • Peaches does Yoko Ono over at BigStereo. Not like that.
  • BadmintonStamps has an old Puff Daddy track. From way back in the day– before he gave birth to twins.
  • And finally, I Am Fuel, You Are Friends has a handful of Belly demos from the Star album. I’ll say it again- the 90’s are coming back. You’ll see.

  • Timedoor has a great mix posted today with tracks by the Velvet Underground, Loretta Lynn and Neil Young. Enjoy.
  • Ninebullets’ 2006 Best Of list includes The Raconteurs’ “Together.” Naturally.
  • Mainstream Isn’t So Bad posted an Oasis concert from 1994, which is a must download.
  • And finally, Open Your Eyes has two new Ben Kweller tracks today. If “Sundress” isn’t on your iPod yet, now’s your chance.

  • The BM Rant has the best Best list I’ve seen so far. So head over there for tracks by Art Brut, The Hold Steady, Midlake, The Strokes and more.
  • Speaking of Best Of lists, Refinery29 posted their Top 20 albums of the year, complete with accompanying mp3’s. Clipse, Hot Chip and TV on the Radio are there. Why aren’t you?
  • If you’ve ever wanted to hear the unreleased track that Oasis named their greatest hits album after, here’s your chance. I Am Fuel, You Are Friends is here to help.
  • Today Licorice Pizza posted four old unreleased Hole tracks that may or may not have been written by Kurt Cobain. Either way, they still rock.
  • And finally, Zombies Ate My Blog have a good reason to start getting excited about 2007: The Ponys. I can’t wait.

LISTEN UP: This Post’s 5 Best Bands

beatleslove.jpg

  • Neiles Life gets the “bloggers making lists of their favorite things at the end of the year” season kicked off with his 25 best albums of 2006, including my personal favorite, from Band of Horses.
  • Don’t let your year-end lists distract you from the best music of the week, though! The Yellow Stereo rounds up new tracks from The Beatles, Sufjan Stevens, and Oasis (who’s still bigger than The Beatles in their own minds).
  • Fluxblog makes a list of four reasons they’re confused that Outkast’s “PJ & The Rooster” wasn’t selected as the lead single for their failed album Idlewild.
  • Muzzle of Bees get themselves arrested by the hip and happenin’ sounds of Tokyo Police Club.
  • Hate Something Beautiful stops for a moment to love something beautiful by posting a couple tracks from Lily Allen.

LISTEN UP: Always One Foot On The Ground
    regina spektor.jpg
  • Oasis’ greatest hits album comes out tomorrow. Page 300 has their cover of “Helter Skelter.” Download it, but first promise me that you won’t kill anybody because of it.
  • Speaking of covers, Hate Something Beautiful posted two Of Montreal covers, including their take on The Shins’ “Know Your Onion!”
  • An Aquarium Drunkard also has two mp3’s today. The Hold Steady’s “Chips Ahoy” and “Southtown Girls.” Download them both.
  • The Music Slut posted two Regina Spektor tracks today, one being “Fidelity.” I’d tell you how much I love this song, but I don’t want you to judge me.
  • And finally, Rewriteable Content has a great mix including tracks by Radiohead, The Rapture, Sufjan, comedy by Demetri Martin and more. Get to work.

LISTEN UP: Take Covers

oasis01.jpg

  • MOKB has almost as many cover tracks of Oasis’ classic song “Wonderwall” (including versions by Cat Power, Ryan Adams and Radiohead) as Liam Gallagher has statements he later regretted having said.
  • Aquarium Drunkard has a couple more tracks from Yo La Tengo’s new album I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass, which I will never get tired of typing.
  • The latest six-pack over at *Sixeyes has some fine brews from My Brightest Diamond, Spoon and Sprites. Very refreshing.
  • Gorilla vs Bear has a couple tracks from the buzzards in Ghostland Observatory, who set at Austin City Limits reportedly set their hometown on fire.
  • Berkeley Place has a “Best of The Killers” post that seems sort of like an oxymoron to me, but maybe you’ll enjoy it.

    shout outlouds.jpg
  • It’s not officially summer until you download at least three tracks by The Beach Boys. Thank God Slow Motion Radio Station is here to help.
  • Obscure Sound has four tracks off of one my favorite albums from last year, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff by The Shout Out Louds. Download them, then go pick up the whole thing.
  • Today The Music Slut posted tracks by Ryan Adams, Tori Amos, Oasis, Nellie McKay and Weezer. The Music Slut really gets around.
  • Over at Pop Tarts Suck Toasted the theme of the day is Stephen Malkmus. So that’s where you want to go to download a solo track, a Pavement track and a Silver Jews track if you’re into that sorta thing.
  • And finally, A Spacious Hole In The Ground is super-pumped about the upcoming Gin Blossoms CD (yes, apparently there’s an upcoming Gin Blossoms CD), and posted a new mp3. Admit it, you’re curious. Come on. Admit it.

…OF THE DAY

plumbtruck
COOL MOM: A Maine mother was arrested for baking ex-lax cookies for daughters’ teacher, as revenge over a bad grade. (Drudge Report)
HUMILIATING JOB: Unclogging people’s toilets for a living is bad enough, but looking like you’re squatting on one while you drive is unforgivable. (Humping Frog via Smith Happens)
EXCUSE: A coyote broke into Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson’s trailers on the set of the OC and ate all their food. (The Mirror)
PLAYLIST: Ashley Parker Angel’s. The pop star can turn you on to some really cutting edge bands you’ve probably never heard of like Third Eye Blind and Oasis. (ONTD)
