Tempting America to fall feet-first into cycling, the BikeE must be one of the most accessible recumbents around. The high seat, feet-first riding style and relatively low bottom bracket make the BikeE an easy bike to ride. It's just the vehicle to persuade upright riders from their perches.
Long enough to offer excellent stability at high speed, yet short enough for excellent slow-speed manoeuvrability, the BikeE AT (Air Technology) has reassuring handling in all conditions. A rear swingarm suspension system, incorporating a damped compressed-air shock absorber, soaks up the bumps - then there's further cushioning from the seat. The air shock can be pumped up to take account of different conditions or rider weight, and the system avoids the 'pogo' effect that makes many suspension systems hard work.
Twist shift gear changers on the handlebars operate the 21 gears: the Sachs 3x7 system gives a gear range wide enough for touring yet simple enough for just cruising round town. The seat is five-way adjustable, with a very comfortable cushioned base, and slides up and down the aluminium backbone, making adjustment for different riders quick and simple. The AT and rigid-frame BikeE CT are both available in two frame sizes. The standard frame fits riders of up to 6'3" (190cm), while the XL frame will take riders up to 6'9" (205cm), and is also recommended for heavier riders of over 6'1" (185cm). The XL frame is a good choice for an average-height rider wishing for more rear carrying capacity. There is a wide range of good quality tyres available for the 16" (349) front and 20" (406) rear wheels.
Both versions of the BikeE make practical, comfortable bikes with a surprising turn of speed. Whatever speed you go, you ride on a comfortable seat and with your eyes up - so enjoy the scenery!
