The Fifty-Fifty from Flevobike strikes an elegant balance. Somewhere between long and short wheelbase, between high- and low-rider, it's perfectly poised and seriously sporty, without losing sight of practicality. Weight distribution is perfect -a 50/50 split between front and rear wheels. The laid-back riding position gives excellent aerodynamics. The seat itself is extremely comfortable - most of the weight is supported by the rider's back, very little on the buttocks. Flevobike have developed a new covering for their seats, a very open-weave fibre mesh, which lets air circulate while remaining supportive and resilient.
Both wheels are the common 20" (406) size, and Shimano V-brakes are standard. The transmission is the Sachs 3x7 system: seven derailleur speeds, and three hub gears. Mudguards, carrier racks and lighting sets are all available.
If there's a Flevobike more streamlined than the Fifty-Fifty, it's the Alleweder. Described at greater length in Encycleopedia 4, this fully-faired tricycle is available in two forms. The first, popular option is the 33.5kg aluminium Alleweder, a monocoque design which you can assemble youself - or order as a complete machine. There's also the lighter (27kg) - but unavoidably more expensive - Carbon Alleweder, a beautiful creation of curved carbon-fibre composite. Both versions have full suspension, excellent brakes and bodywork adjustable to suit the weather.
