P.O.D.'s Sonny Sandoval and Wuv Bernardo discussed their upcoming album Testify with the big wigs at Atlantic Records recently, playing six songs from the new CD and sharing their faith in the meeting. "I believe in Jesus Christ," Sandoval told the Atlantic execs. "I will never back down from my faith. We know that no matter what happens, our name is good on the streets. You can ask anyone and we are good with the people in the streets. We do this in a way that even our own kids will look back and be proud." To read about this trip in more detail and to get a month-to-month account of the making of the album, visit the band's official website. Testify is set to release in late fall.
Can't wait for new Yolanda Adams music? Thanks to Atlantic Records, now you can stream full versions of "Be Blessed," "Someone Watching Over You," and "Victory." Adams' Day by Day releases August 30.
On October 5, Kirk Franklin releases Hero, his first studio album since 1998's Nu Nation Project. You might call him the Carlos Santana of Christian music, as Franklin features a bevy of guest heavy-hitters from all spheres of music, including P.O.D.'s Sonny Sandoval, Smokie Norful, Yolanda Adams, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Marvin Winans, Sheila E., tobyMac, and Fantasia, among others.
Only a year-and-a-half since their latest studio album Wire, Third Day is gearing up for a November 1 release of a new CD, Wherever You Are. Expect a new single to hit the airwaves soon, followed by the band's cover of Primal Scream's "Movin' On Up," recorded for the soundtrack (releasing December 27) of Steve Taylor's new movie, The Second Chance, which should be in theaters February 2006.
Ginny Owens will unveil Long Way Home, her fourth studio album for Rocketown Records, on October 11. She shares the role of co-producer with longtime collaborator Monroe Jones (Third Day, Chris Rice), as well as with Will Hunt (Shane & Shane, Ryan Cabrera) and Vince Emmett (Rebecca St. James, Paul Colman). The first radio single, "Fellow Traveler," goes for adds on September 2. Owens can be found on the road this fall touring with Big Daddy Weave as well as continuing her solo dates and songwriting conferences.
Speaking of being long way from home, here's an interesting article on classic rocker Lou Gramm of Foreigner fame. After wrestling with some tough personal issues, he seems to be relying on his Christian faith to carry him through. In 1997, Gramm guested on Petra's "We Need Jesus," and it looks like he'll make his Christian rock debut later this year.
Newcomer Bethany Dillon is gearing up for her sophomore release, Imagination, due August 16. She has also penned the song "Dreamer," to be featured in the end credits for the movie Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story. Opening nationwide on October 21, the film stars Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, Kris Kristofferson and Elisabeth Shue in a heartwarming tale of a horse trainer (Russell) and his daughter (Fanning) who nurse an injured horse back to health and, together, strive to achieve a dream against all odds.
Houston-based Robbie Seay Band is preparing for the August 16 release of Better Days, their major label debut with Sparrow Records/EMI CMG. Produced by Jay Joyce (Nichole Nordeman, Patty Griffin), Will Hunt and Robbie Seay Band, Better Days features 11 vertically-focused selections, all written or co-written by the Texas foursome. The band will join the 30-city David Crowder Band Collision Tour this fall, along with Shane & Shane.
