The Scoop
Christian musicians raise 50 grand for tsunami victims; P.O.D.'s Sonny sings on tsunami relief song; U2 ticket sales a big mess; "evangelism tickets" now available; and more.

The Nashville music community raised over $50,000 for tsunami relief at last week's "An Evening for Restoration" concert. More than $27,000 came from donations made at the show, while the rest of the proceeds came from ticket sales. The event featured performances by Michael W. Smith, CeCe Winans, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jaci Velasquez, tobyMac, and many others.

A who's-who list of artists ranging from P.O.D. frontman Sonny Sandoval and R&B crooner Bryan McKnight to former Sixpence None the Richer mouthpiece Leigh Nash and former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody joined hands to record "Forever in Our Hearts," a single for benefiting tsunami victims. The song will soon be released to Apple's iTunes music store, with funds being redistributed to the Red Cross through the multi-artist organization Music for Relief. A music video comprised of footage from the recording sessions is currently being compiled.

Only days after going on sale, tickets for U2's highly anticipated Vertigo Tour have sold out in multiple markets across the U.S., and many fans are disgruntled over the unavailability of tickets. A flawed pre-sale event staged by the band's official website went awry, leaving many fans in the cold or with expensive, lousy seats. Across Internet forums, some fans are even talking class-action suits against the band. It's a huge mess.

If you can't get U2 tickets, there's always Evangelism Tickets, a new evangelistic/e-commerce effort. Designed by EvangelismTickets.com, a Ticketmaster-type venture, churchgoers can purchase tickets to Christian events and concerts to give to unchurched relatives and friends. The service is tailor-made for individuals who wouldn't normally invite someone to church, but would probably invite them to a high-caliber Christian event. All tickets purchased through their website are tax-deductible.

Missing some new ZOEgirl? The girls are about ready to release Room to Breathe, their fourth album for Sparrow Records. According to their website, the new record is "a great combination of fun, classic ZOEgirl, worship, and deeper ministry." If you can't wait until the album's March 15 bow, you may listen to the first single, "About You," right here.

And finally, an offer you can't pass up: If you never did check out Sixpence None the Richer's bittersweet swansong Divine Discontent (which Christian Music Today writers named the best album of 2002), Christianbook.com has it on sale for an astonishing 99 cents. In the meantime, you may also want to check out the first post-Sixpence Leigh Nash song, "I've Gotta See You Smile," which appeared on the Because of Winn-Dixie soundtrack, out now.
