March 28 marks the beginning of U2's upcoming Vertigo Tour. The trek, which starts in San Diego, includes as many as 110 shows worldwide, with North American legs in the spring and fall, plus an international run in between. Ticket prices will average $90, ranging from $49.50 for general admission on the floor to $165 for the best seats. Additionally, the band is eyeing a live concert DVD of the tour. In the meantime, be sure to catch the band at the Grammy Awards ceremony on February 13, and at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14.
Rolling Stone magazine recently banned an ad for a "twentysomething"-friendly translation of the Bible that was to run in one of its February editions. Zondervan Publishers were astonished when Kent Brownridge, general manager of Wenner Media (parent company of Rolling Stone) admitted that the ad "doesn't quite feel right in the magazine," citing that "we are not in the business of publishing advertising for religious messages." (Christian Music Today's Mark Moring wrote an editorial about it here.)
Christian music fans longing for their own version of The Swan and Extreme Makeover are now getting just that with Christian Music Makeover, a reality TV-styled series featuring members of Daniel's Window. Part Making the Band and other makeover-based shows, band members will participate in a physical makeover (weight loss, cosmetics), musical makeover (performance and guitar lessons), and a spiritual makeover (daily devotions to enrich their faith). For more, check the official website.
On March 1, Inpop Records will release The Answer to the Question: Expanded Edition, an upgrade of Tree63's best-selling third album. The reissue will contain the previously-unavailable cuts "Maker of All Things" and "Paradise," as well as a host of unreleased acoustic versions of previously recorded material. The re-release will also contain enhanced content, including the video and chord charts for the song "King." Additionally, the band will hit the road in early March with Building 429 and Paul Colman for the All God's Children Tour.
For metalcore music lovers, Norma Jean is back! It's been almost three years since Solid State's best-selling band unveiled the acclaimed Bless the Martyr, Kiss the Child, and now they're ready to unleash the equally evocative, O' God, the Aftermath, coming in March. Never ones to eschew creative, head-turning song titles, new cuts include "Vertebraille: Choke That Thief Called Dependence," "Murderotica," "Bayonetwork," "Charactarantula," "Pretendeavor," and other clever made-up compound words. Check out "Vertebraille" at the band's Pure Volume page.
