Bono nominated for Nobel Peace Prize; Leigh Nash talks solo project; MercyMe rocks out; and more.

U2's Bono and Live 8's mastermind Bob Geldof have been nominated for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, alongside other 189 nominees. Bono was nominated for his continued campaign to end world poverty and fight AIDS, while Geldof received a mention for assembling last year's historical, multi-country music concert. The $1.3 million award will be presented in Oslo on December 10, the anniversary of the death of its founder, Alfred Nobel.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, former Sixpence None the Richer singer Leigh Nash expounded on her plans to release a solo album this summer. Produced by Pierre Marchand (Sarah McLachlan), the untitled project was inspired by the many changes in Nash's life. "It's a really rich, emotional time for me," said Nash. "Plenty of inspiration with my first child. And my husband and I have been married for ten years now, so of course there's a lot of relationship stuff to write about. [The album] was good timing."
MercyMe will release Coming Up to Breathe on April 25. The album was produced by Brown Bannisterwho also produced The Christmas Sessionsand is said to be the band's most aggressive disc. "It definitely came across a little more rocking than any other album we've done," says lead singer Bart Millard. "We really focused on up tempo songs. It's definitely way more energetic than anything we've ever done before. It's just trying to put a little more edge into what we are creating."
Steven Curtis Chapman and wife Mary Beth are gearing up for the release of the third installment of their popular children's picture book series, Shaoey & Dot. Subtitled A Thunder and Lightning Bug Story, the tome tells the story of Shaoeythe heroine in the first two booksand her ladybug friend Dot as they both try to help young readers conquer their fear of the dark. The storybook hits stores shelves in April.
Former Creed frontman Scott Stapp and his lawyers gave a cease-and-desist order to Red Light Distribution to remove a 40-second video sample promoting a sex tape involving Stapp, rap-rocker Kid Rock, and four female fans. Also, Rock's lawyers filed a suit against the company for violating their client's trademark and privacy rights. The complaint seeks a permanent court order halting the sale or distribution of the video.
Gospelflava.com announced the return of popular vocalist Fred Hammond, who will record a live album at Bishop T.D. Jakes' Potter's House Church in April. American Idol victor Ruben Studdard and worship leader Israel Houghton are scheduled guests.
