Kids of the Kingdom
Wit and wisdom from the mouths of babes.
From our readers
On Second Thought My 7-year-old daughter, Jessica, is a deep thinker when it comes to theological questions. Recently we discussed why bad things happen sometimes, re-reading the story of Adam and Eve and how sin came into the world. Later that week, Jessica was ill and had to stay home from school. Feeling miserable, she told me, "If only Adam and Eve hadn't eaten the fruit, I wouldn't be sick." Before I could answer, she quickly added, "But, of course, if they didn't eat it, we'd be sitting here naked!"

I Want Candy A family visiting our church stayed with my parents for the weekend. On Sunday morning, everyone was rushed to get ready for church. My dad asked the family's 4-year-old son, Kent, if he would like a piece of candy to tide him over until lunch. Kent readily agreed. However, thinking better of his gesture, my dad said, "Wait, maybe you should ask your mother first."
Kent glanced around furtively, checking to see if his mother was in sight. "Here, give it to me," he whispered. "I can eat it real fast."

Permanent Sleepover On the first night in their new room, my two little sisters, Sharon, 5, and Judy, 4, were afraid to go to sleep. After Mom tucked them into bed together, she assured them several times that they'd be safe.
"Remember," she finally said, "God is with you." As Mom left, she overheard Sharon say, "Move over, Judy! Let God sleep in the middle."
