Succeeded on the death of his uncle, 6th February 1695. Girded with the sword at the Great Mosque of Eyub. Lost most of his Hungarian possessions to Austria and other territories to Venice and Poland as a consequence of the Treaty of Karlowitz, 16th January 1699. m. (firstly) Ali-Janab Bash-Haseki (d. at Adrianople, 20th April 1699). m. (secondly) 1695, H.H. Saliha Sabkati Valide Sultan (b. 1680; d. at Constantinople, 21st September 1739), 2nd Haseki from 1695, Bash-Haseki from 20th April 1699, and Valide Sultan from 1st October 1730. m. (thirdly) 1695, Hafisa Haseki (m. secondly, 1704, Haji Kara Abu Bakar Effendi Sirvani, Rais ul-Kuttab, and d. 12th June 1723), styled 3rd Haseki. m. (fourthly) 1698, H.H. Shahsuvar Valide Sultan (b. 1682: d. 27th April 1756), Valide Sultan from 13th December 1754, a lady of Russian origin. m. (fifthly) Afifa Haseki. m.
