Girded with the sword at the Great Mosque at Eyub, 8th September 1566. A weak and indolent ruler who saw his fleet annihilated at the Battle of Lepanto, 7th October 1571. m. at Konya, 1545, Nur-Banu Valide Sultana (b. 1530; d. 7th December 1583), Valide Sultana from 15th December 1574, a lady of Italian origin. He d. at the Topkapi Palace, Constantinople, 15th December 1574, having had issue, eight sons and four daughters:

(firstly) at Manisa, 1565, Safiya Valide Sultana (b. at Vanadik, 1550; d. at the Aski Palace, Constantinople, 10th November 1605), Valide Sultana from 16th January 1595. m. (secondly) Shah-i-Huban Haseki. m. (thirdly) Shams-i-Ruhsar Haseki (d. at Constantinople, 1613). m. (fourthly) Naz-Parvar Haseki. m. (fifthly) 1575, a daughter of Mircea III Shoban, Lord of Eflak. He d. at the Topkapi Palace, Constantinople, 16th January 1595, having had issue, twenty-five sons and several daughters, including:

(fourthly) Valide Sultana II (b. 1576; d. 1623), Naib-i-Sultanat (Regent) from 22nd November 1617 to 26th February 1618 and 19th May 1622, a Caucassian lady. He d. at the Topkapi Palace, Constantinople, 21st December 1603, having had issue, six sons and ten daughters:

(thirdly) Kusama Mah-Paykar Valide Sultana (b. 1589; d. 3rd September 1651), styled Valide Sultana from 10th September 1623 and Naib-i-Sultanat (Regent) 10th September 1623-18th May 1632, a lady of Greek origin. He d. from typhus, at the Topkapi Palace, Constantinople, 22nd November 1617 (bur. Sultan Ahmed Mosque, Constantinople), having had issue, twelve sons and ten daughters:
