- The Short and Sweet Faulking Truth Update
   by Mark Faulk

Hello, Faulkers! It's Saturday, April 9, and while I'm going to up bring you up to speed on what's happening at The Faulking Truth, I'm going to keep it short and then, here's what I'd really like you to do: read this, make yourself a mental note to come back and visit us later, and......turn off your computers and your TVs for awhile, and go spend at least part of this beautiful spring day with someone you love. If you don't have someone you love around to spend a couple of hours with, then spend it walking your dog. And.....if you don't have a dog, then go to the mall or the park and hang out looking lonely and pathetic until someone befriends you. Oh, what the heck, come visit our website, we'll be your friends!

On with the short and sweet Faulking Truth update:

One of our writers recently commented that we have a pretty good shot at winning the "Most Dysfunctional Website Award" this year, and if our recent efforts are any indication, we're a lock for it. First of all, read Robin Buckallew's courageous article about her struggles with anorexia in "Out of Control and Sinking Fast". While she has, thankfully, been successful in her battle, many are still fighting this one, so please send anyone whom you even suspect is dealing with an eating disorder a copy of this article. You could help to save a life.

In "Blogfest 2005", I add several new pieces: one is a dysfunctional rant of my own called "I'm not schizophrenic....and neither am I", one on the Pope (stating the obvious) called "Pope Dies of Old Age", another one on the continuing Dateline Stockgate saga called "America to Dateline: Tell the Truth Now!", and there are always new ones in the blog itself.

On the subject of Dateline, here's the week in a nutshell: They finally scheduled the Stockgate story for this Sunday, then they postponed it (yet again) to air an interview with "American Idol" Ruben Studdard, then they made some lame excuses about it, and THEN.....we started a boycott against Dateline, NBC, and GE. Good stuff, I'll let you find the litany of articles and commentaries on that topic on your own.

In "Bush's Third Term", Down the Middle tells us about yet another case of "back door legislation" (and yes, I know what you're thinking, it IS an appropriate phrase for what they're doing to us), this one allows a "chosen few" to seize control of the country in case of emergencies.....democracy be damned.

In "An Odyssey of Irrelevance", Robin Buckallew deals with a realization we all face at one time or another: the feeling of insignificance and irrelevance in a world that we feel helpless to control or change. The good news - it has a happy ending (I just love happy endings!).

And.....in "The Flogging of America", I tell about the ongoing war between the major media and the internet, or the "Blog World". Guess who's winning that one? (a hint: it's us)

Last (but never, ever least), our current words selection is entitled "Roman Numeral 5", which is actually just an obscure title for an incredibly emotional and heartfelt ode to lost love, penned by one of my all-time favorite people, Lillian Annabella Constantine lll. It will tug at your heart strings, that is if you have any.

I'll leave you with an entry from Ken Shade's "Quote of the Day", just so you'll know what you're missing if you don't go there everyday to read his twisted bits of wisdom:

The Really, He's Serious Quote of the Day:

"Capital punishment is our society's recognition of the sanctity of human life."
Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)

Okay, that's about it (oh yeah....visit the Guestbook, click on our sponsors' ads, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada).....now, on three, I want everyone to turn off your computers for a couple of hours and go have some fun....one....two....THREE!

And that's the Faulking Truth.
