- It Takes an Army
   by Mark Faulk

(Editor's note: This is my first blog entry for The Sanity Check, appropriately billed as "the gathering place for the Market Reform Movement.." There, you will find information from the various advocates who have, reluctantly or otherwise, led the crusade to restore honesty and integrity to the stock market. Thanks to Bob O'Brien for providing this outlet, and to Dave Patch and all of the rest of "The Team" for keeping this issue alive. There truly is strength in numbers.)

"Let us not waste our time in idle discourse. Let us do something, while we have the chance! It is not every day that we are needed. But at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or not. Let us make the most of it, before it is too late..." -Samuel Beckett

I'm not certain what to write on this, my virgin blog entry for Sanity Check. After reading Dave Patch's blog entry, I considered just writing "What he said" and leaving it at that, but that would be the lazy person's way out.

And guess what, America? There's not a lazy person in the bunch when it comes to the issue of stock market reform. Instead, there are thousands of people who have dedicated their time to lifting every rock and shining a light under it, and to demanding that those who are pledged to protect the small investor do just that. So instead, I'll begin with a round of kudos to those in the trenches:

Kudos to Dave Patch, the cornerstone of the crusade to bring reform to the stock market (and a much funnier person than he gives himself credit for). Without Dave, this issue would have ben dead in the water years ago. Without Dave I would never have gotten involved. Thanks man...I love ya.

Kudos to Bob O'Brien, for adding energy and focus to our efforts, and for doing what I've been whining that we all should do for months: channel our efforts, and create one League of Stock Market Reform Unlikely Superheroes who can challenge the greedy brokers, take on the SEC, harass Congress, ridicule the NASD, and strip the veil of secrecy from the hedge funds until they are as naked as the their stock positions. See? Dave was right. Actions are better than whining.

Kudos to Patrick Byrne for putting his charismatic ass on the line and raising the profile of our crusade to the mythical "next level." Thanks for taking us nationwide. May the Force be with you always.

Kudos to Bud Burrell for speaking out in his understated way, and then backing it up. Always outspoken, and a veritable font of information.

Kudos to Gayle Essery at Financial Wire, who has kept up the pressure for years, and who has lifted our profile and expanded our audience.

Okay, there are lots more, DeWayne at CRFN, Darren, Gary and Gary, Rod, the people at The PIPES Report, Ralph Lambiase....and the list goes on and on. We are, as Dave so aptly put it, a TEAM. Every one of us has put in thousands of hours of our time to accomplish something bigger than any one of us.....something for the Greater Good.

I've suggested in the past that we.....as reluctant leaders, or leaders by chance, need to have a real summit meeting, where we put together a cohesive plan of attack, because guess what? Our opponents, those who profit, and profit big, are rich, powerful, and organized. We better do the same, or we don't stand a proverbial snowball's chance in hell. We need to lock ourselves into a room for a few days, and come out united, galvanized, and swinging.

We have enough advocates to fill a village.....but in this case, it doesn't take a village, it takes an entire army. We need America's help. For ever dollar that is taken from our pockets by unscrupulous hedge funds, we need one voice to speak out against it. For every share of stock that isn't delivered by a broker who has already spent the profits that he made on your transaction, we need an equal number of voices crying foul. We need millions of voices, not thousands.

In my next blog, and on my website as well, I'll try to do exactly what Dave has called for, I'll try, as we've all tried, to offer valid solutions. I've shouted out a call to arms on numerous occasion, but its obvious that I haven't followed up enough myself. It's time to refocus our efforts.

Here's a simple jumping off point for everyone while we put together our plan of attack. Do this, and DO IT NOW:

Call your broker, and demand delivery of your stock certificates. If he or she says that they can't deliver them to you, ask them why....and then make them put int in writing. Then forward those lame excuses to the SEC, and to your Congressman, and to Senator Richard Shelby. Force them to settle the trades, and deliver your stock. It really is that simple.

And then, call your Congressman every chance you get, or email them, or camp out on their front yard.

And call the one Senator who could begin the process to fix this tomorrow, but instead chose to do nothing. Call Senator Richard Shelby today and every day. Here's his phone number: (202) 224-5744, and here's his email address: senator@shelby.senate.gov

And finally, and I've said this time and time again: spread the word. Tell every media source to get off of their Jessica Simpson loving asses and report the truth. Tell them that we care more about our country's future more than we do about whether Brad and Jennifer ever get back together. And spread it across the internet. Link the articles of the publications that are telling the story, and demand that other websites do the same.

And that, my friends, is a sanity check from the Faulking Truth.
