by Mark Faulk Welcome to BlogFest 2005, the latest addition to The Faulking Truth. It's hard to believe that just six months ago we launched our little project with the somewhat modest intention of reaching a couple of hundred readers a month (Hey, we're nothing if not ambitious). Since then, we've grown to over 40,000 hits a month, despite our continuing efforts to sabotage ourselves by ridiculing our readers and fans, even going so far as to make fun of our own family members.
Our one saving grace, however, is that we realize that no matter how maladjusted, tumultuous, and neurotic the world as a whole is, it doesn't even begin to match the chaos that runs rampant inside our collective heads. That said, here's the real reason I added this "blog" to our site (besides the fact that the word itself sounds like a bad "B" movie title: "The Blog"): I've been writing in incomplete sentences lately, coming up with great ideas for articles, writing a couple of paragraphs, and then wandering off to watch reruns of "The Simpsons".
And then it hit me, that's exactly what a blog is! Incomplete sentences. By calling this a blog, I can just spout off random thoughts and caffeine-fueled tirades, and not even use spellcheck if I don't feel like it. It's the perfect literary outlet for the underachiever, and when it comes to underachieving, I'm the ultimate overachiever.
So, here it is, I'll try to update it every faulking day if I can, even if I just log on and post "Bush sucks!", or something equally profound. Keep checking in, and post your own tirades in our guestbook, just so I'll know I'm pissing someone off.
Lest you think this blog will be all about negativity and ridicule, I'll close with the lyrics to a song from my favorite songwriter, Ray Davies of the Kinks. (And a kind word out to his brother Dave, who is currently recovering from a stroke. Dave, this one's for you, mate):
