- Hey, O! Wa S'up?
   by Down The Middle

Hey, O! S'up wit you? Ain't seen ya hangin' in the hood...thinkin' maybe, you be missin' the dissin', by now.....but you be nowhere, vato. I know da man said, he would do you ugly...but he jus' put a sock down his drawers and did the walk, actin' bad and all...da's it. One day, you be cribin' wit yo bros at TB.....then, you be so gone, dude. Wa'sup?

So, where is Osama bin Laden? From what I gather, no one really seems to know what has become of the infamous co-founder of the world's largest terrorist network (not including the world governments). Don't we pay somebody to keep track of these things? The latest, I heard was about a month ago, when Porter Goss (Bush's new "director-of-spooks" at the CIA) told us that he didn't have any idea where bin Laden was.....and then, he turned around a week later and told us that he's got a real good idea that O's probably hiding out along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. Hell, they were saying that, way back at the beginning of this whole damn thing...let's see, now...how many years ago was that?

So, if we have a really good idea where he is, why then are we sitting on our hands the way NORAD sat on their hands the morning of 9/11? Mr. Goss explained that there are sensitive sovereignty issues to consider. I guess that means we're still not going into Pakistan...right? I suppose the Pakistanis will take care of it, themselves.......right?

I just don't get it. We've got a President who said explicitly (In fact, he made a really big deal out of saying it) that we would go anywhere to get bin Laden, DEAD or ALIVE and that "You're either with us or against us". Since then, we've had half the army out looking for terrorists.....IN IRAQ!!!.......and it sure looks like we found some, too! Of course, they weren't actually in Iraq until after we showed up...because if they had been, nasty ole Saddam would have chopped their damn heads off.......and the last time I saw bin Laden, he still had his.

But some folks think the "big O" is already dead. They figure he died at Tora Bora, but I don't buy that scenario. I was watching that day when the Special Forces Forward Controller looked into the camera (with a less than joyous expression on his face) and said, "We knew exactly which cave he was in, painted 'em with the lazer and called in the air strike. We waited four hours and the strike never came." I only saw this news report twice that morning, before they jerked it off the air. No.....bin Laden didn't die that day at Tora Bora.....because some extremely high official in our government wanted him to live. Imagine that.

Others think bin Laden has long since died of kidney failure. Considering that video tape he sent us, where he looked so terribly ill, I would think that might be the more plausible answer.......but I'm not putting any money on that one, either. If he was allowed to live after killing some 3,000 Americans on 9/11...then, what would make me think that he couldn't have easily, if covertly, sought out the best medical treatment that money (or Al Qaeda group health insurance) could buy.

Then, there are those who believe the "big O" is still very much alive. Mr. Goss seems to think so. He's just either not too sure...or he's got a real good idea, just where bin Laden is. Maybe he should get together with the Pakistanis on this.........or maybe, he already has.
