Words - Jan 18, 2005 - Printable Version - The Wind in the Trees by Mark Faulk & Sheralyn Faulk As night falls on this dusty town Feel the tension in the air The Postmaster's made his rounds He's working on another beer And the old shopkeeper looks both ways He's afraid to cross the street He hears footsteps in the darkness It's just the wind in the trees He says "I used to walk alone at night And still I felt secure But now it's locks upon the windows And bolts on all the doors" And the Postmaster just shakes his head And tells him he agrees Hoping trouble's gonna pass them by Just like the wind in the trees It's just the wind in the trees Something they don't want to see The troubles these times can bring So many simple dreams Just scattered in the breeze Gone like the wind in the trees The old shopkeeper says goodbye An turns his back to leave Pulls his coat up tight around him And steps into the street Now the gunshots echo endlessly Who can know the reasons why? Another random act of hatred How could it be his time to die? Though it went on all around them They never felt the fear They said that it could never happen here But there's violence in the air And I know it isn't fair But you see, it can happen anywhere It's just the wind in the trees Something they don't want to see The troubles these times can bring So many simple dreams Just scattered in the breeze Gone like the wind in the trees They're gone like the wind in the trees
