Four Pan-Am Defectors from last summer's games in Winnipeg have been allowed to stay in Canada and have been given refugee status. Fencer Aristides Faure, Sprinter Misael Ortiz, Gymnast Yohandri Diaz and softball coach Jose Mendez will stay in Canada. All are said to be adjusting to the cold weather are learning English and are "very happy." Six other Cuban athletes defected from the games but their whereabouts are unknown. The 2003 World University Games (Universiade) host city was scheduled to be chosen the last week of February. This has been postponed until July 13-14 at the FISU Executive Committee meetings in Beijing. The postponement was at the request of the bidding cities of Moscow, Izmir (Turkey) and Monterrey, (Mexico). FISU will now allow other cities wishing to bid for the games to make presentations. Over 600 athletes are expected for this year's Windsor Classic Indoor Games in Windsor, Ontario, Canada featuring track, field, swimming, boccia, powerlifting, sled hockey and wheelchair tennis. The games are multi-disability, for athletes age 6 and up. There's something about the Olympic Games that inspires quiltmakers to create. The Quiltmakers of Georgia created some 400 quilts as gifts for official visitors to the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Now Sydney has joined in the quiltmaking spirit with an official fundraiser for the 2000 Paralympic Games. Over 500 Quilts may be viewed online, and all are available for purchase. Olympic archery gold medalist Justin Huish, has been arrested on charges of selling marijuana to police in California this past month. Huish, now 25, and a housemate, Brian Mastrangelo, 24, each face up to four years in prison if convicted of possession of marijuana for sale. Police detectives had been investigating the two for over a month.
