Tehran hosting
new games for women

Tehran, Iran is hosting a
new games for women this month, the Islamic and Muslim Capitals
Women's Games.
The games are similar in
format, but separate from the Muslim Women's Games (scheduled to be
held in Iran for the fourth time in September of this year), and are
meant to promote sports among women in Islamic nations while also
observing Islamic dress codes.
Shenzhen, China to
bid for 2011 WUG

Officials of China's World University
Games team in Innsbruck have announced that China will be seeking to
host the 2011 summer edition of the games.
Yang LiGuo vice president of the
China University Sports Federation and executive deputy chef de mission
of the Chinese 2005 winter Universiade team, has stated that the
Chinese government has authorized the bid.
FISU will decide on the 2011 hosts,
summer and winter, during the 2007 Winter World University Games in
Turin.
B of the
Bang unveiled by Linford Christie

The sculpture, "B of
the Bang" inspired by the comments of Linford Christie was
unveiled by Linford Christie in Manchester today.
Christie was fond of saying
that he was so fast out of the blocks that he started on the "B
of the Bang."
The sculpture is 184 feet
(56 meters) tall, and stands next to the City of Manchester stadium,
site of the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Iran
Considers Asian Games boycott

Iran is continuing its
campaign over the name of the gulf that separates Iran and the
Arabian peninsula, insisting that it be called the Persian Gulf, and
nothing else.
If not Iran will boycott
the 2006 Asian Games.
Iran has noted that the
2006 Asian Games organizers in Doha, Qatar, have frequently used the
term "Arabian Gulf" for the body of water that the
Iranians say should only be known as the Persian Gulf.
Mohsen Mehr-Alizadeh, the
head of Iran's physical education organization, told Iranian state
television, "if the historical name of the Persian Gulf is
falsified during the Asian Doha games in 2006, Iran will certainly
boycott the games," and called the name confusion a
"Zionist plot."
In July of 2004 Iran also
threatened to boycott the 2005 Islamic Solidarity Games for the same
reason, if Saudi Arabia did not use the name Persian Gulf.
Asian Games
village opened for tsunami victims

The Asian Games village in
Bangkok has been opened up to be used as a rescue shelter for
victims of the Asian tsunami.
Survivors have fled the
area, and are straining the capacity of shelters in Bangkok.
Thammasat University volunteered to open its rooms which were used
for the Asian Games in 1998.
