After years of underground success, Bay Area punkers Green Day burst into the mainstream with their major-label debut, Dookie, and hits such as "Longview" and "Welcome to Paradise."
Since then, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, guitarist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool have expanded their sound with discs such as Nimrod and Warning, won over millions of fans and taken home more Grammys and MTV VMAs than we care to count. The band is currently riding a creative high with the release of last year's "punk rock-opera" American Idiot and a tour that's seemingly going on forever.
