Family Affair: The Anissa Jones Story

As Buffy on Family Affair in the late '60s and early '70s, Anissa Jones played a child in a loving, idealized--if unorthodox--family unit. But she had little in common with her alter ego. Her teenage years were spent shuffling between the homes of her divorced parents, and, in 1976, her life came to a tragic end when she died of a massive drug overdose at the age of 18.

What You Don't Know:
• When Jones was six, her mother took her on an open audition for a commercial. She got it.
• Originally, costar Johnny Whitaker was cast as Buffy's older brother, but after the producers saw how Anissa and Johnny looked together on camera, they made the characters twins.
• Mrs. Beasley, Buffy's constant companion and best friend, became the bestselling doll in America at one point during the show's run.
• Before totally giving up her acting career, Jones auditioned for The Exorcist.
• During the show's heyday, Jones, Johnny Whitaker and their parents visited President Lyndon B. Johnson at the White House.
• Eight years after Jones died of an accidental drug overdose, her brother Paul also died of a drug overdose.
