The Union Panamericana de fundaciones de Asma y Alergia (UNASMA) sponsored the first Juegos Deportivos Panamericanos para Pacientes con ASMA (Pan-American Games for Patients with Asthma) in September, 2000 in River Plate, Argentina.   

The goal of the games is to show that with proper treatment, exercise can be a part of life for those with asthma.

UNASMA plans to hold the next games in Monterrey, Mexico in July 2002.
