Buenos Aires Selected as new 2006 South American Games host September 1, 2005 Instability in Bolivia has led the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR), to name a new host for the 2006 South American Games. La Paz was originally scheduled to host the games. Buenos Aires, Argentina has now been asked to step in and host next years games, winning the bid over Lima, Peru and Cuenca, Ecuador. La Paz made a last second request to keep the games, but this was denied by the committee. Parapanamerican Games close in Argentina December 12, 2003 The Parapanamerican Games have closed in Argentina. The games were a qualifying event in many Paralympic sports for the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games. (The games were listed as a second edition with some sources listing the 1999 games in Mexico as the first Juegos Parapanamericanos. However, the International Games Archive suspects that these are the same as the Pan American Wheelchair Games. According to the organizing committee about 1000 athletes from 25 nations competed at the games in Mar del Plata. Medals were awarded in athletics, boccia, equestrian, swimming, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair tennis, with an exhibition in Wheelchair Rugby.
