The Hapoel Sports Organization is the worker's sport organization of Israel (Hapoel meaning "The worker" in Hebrew. The organization is affiliated with the Histradrut, or the General Federation of Labor in Israel.

The games were held from 1928 until 1995 but changing times have caused a halt in the games.

The games were based on the workers sports festivals and the Hapoel organzation sponsored mass marches, swims and hikes during its existence.

The first four editions up until 1935 were national in scope but throughout the years some 70 nations had participated in the games.

South Africa and apartheid were an issue in the games. South Africa was not invited to the games from the sixties until 1987.
