Queens of Noise: Album by an all-girl band called the Runaways that inspired 13-year-old Courtney.

Mary's Club: The Portland dive where Courtney began stripping when she was 16.

$800: Amount she received monthly from a trust fund, after she was declared independent of her parents.

Sugar Babylon: Courtney's first band, which she started with her two best friends. They broke up without ever having played a gig.

Ireland: Where Courtney traveled with her biological father. They didn't get along, but she stayed and immersed herself in local punk culture until her visa expired in July 1982.

Courtney, Love: How she got her name. Rozz Rezabek, one of her boyfriends, once adopted a British accent and said: "Courtney, love, bring me a spot of tea." She liked how Courtney, love sounded and adopted it as her name.

Taiwan: Where Courtney flew at 19 to strip. She wanted to raise cash to buy a house for herself and Rezabek. The club was closed down, and she was sent back to the United States.

San Francisco: Where Courtney moved in 1985 because she predicted a big musical explosion was going to occur--either there or Seattle.

Sid & Nancy: Her first film. Courtney wowed producers of this film with her audition, but as an unknown, she was given only a bit part.

Guam: Where Courtney wanted to go earn some cash stripping before the start of filming of Sid & Nancy.

Spain: Where Courtney went to film her second movie, Straight to Hell.
