Man, 85, robbed twice in five days in his own home

POLICE are appealing for the public’s help after a "vulnerable" 85-year-old man was preyed on twice in his own home in the space of five days.

The victim, whose identity is being protected, was man-handled in one of the robberies, and Oldham CID are particularly appalled by the fact that women were involved in both incidents.

Detective Constable Dave Boon told the Advertiser: "This elderly gentleman has fallen victim to heartless thieves on two separate occasions. These were despicable crimes committed against a vulnerable member of society."

Both crimes took place at the same time, 2.15pm, with the first on Monday, December 5 and the second on Friday, December 9.

In the first incident two women pretended to be employees of social services in a bid to con their way into their victim's house on Aster Street, Oldham.

The man allowed them in and one asked to use the toilet while the other talked to him in the living room. When they left he discovered that £500 had gone missing from his wallet.

Target

Just four days later the pensioner was to be targetted again.

In this second incident a man and a woman talked their way in to his home, before the woman grabbed him around the neck and asked him if he wanted to have sex with her. She then forced him face down onto the bed and took his wallet from his back pocket. It contained £50. In a bizarre twist, the couple left two cuddly toys in the flat.

DC Boon said: "We are appealing to the public to help catch those responsible. We have not established at this stage whether any of the suspects were involved in both crimes."

In the first incident, one of the women is described as being white, overweight, and in her 30s. The second woman was also white, but thin and in her late 20s. Both of the women wore black jackets and blue jeans.

The female in the second incident was white, thought to be aged 35 to 40, about 5ft 7in with short, dark hair and wearing a blue anorak and blue jeans. She was accompanied by a white male.
