Man tried to abduct girl twice

DETECTIVES in Dukinfield are appealing for the public's help to identify a man who has attempted to abduct a 14-year-old girl on two separate occasions.

On Saturday 8 October the girl was walking along Cheetham Hill Road in Dukinfield at around 7.30pm when she was approached by a man near to the junction of Yew Tree Lane.

When the girl walked past the man he asked her name and then grabbed her arm. The girl broke free of his grip and walked on to her destination toward Hyde.

On Friday 21 October the teenager was walking along an alleyway, which connects Cheetham Hill Road to Kenyon Avenue at around 1.30pm. A man grabbed her and tried to drag her along the alley towards Kenyon Avenue. The girl was able to defend herself and then ran home.

It is believed it is the same man who has tried to abduct the girl and police would like to hear from anyone who recognises his description or recollects seeing someone acting suspiciously in the Cheetham Hill area.

The man is described as being white, between 50 and 53 years old, approximately 5ft 7ins or 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky build. He has very dark brown, nearly black hair, which is short and spiky. His hairline is receding and he has wrinkles across his forehead. He is said to have dark colour eyes, overhanging eyebrows and bags under his eyes.

He was wearing a black zip-up sports top with a white stripe down each sleeve, smart black trousers and black shoes. He spoke with a local accent and police believe he may be from the local area.

Anyone who has any information to assist detectives in the investigation is asked to contact detectives at Ashton CID on 0161 856 9252 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
