So, you're 25, you've starred in a series of successful indie films, nabbed a Best Screenwriting Oscar and become boy-toy to Brad Pitt's ex. What're you gonna do now, Ben Affleck?

No, he's not going to Disneyland. But he is starring in Armageddon, a Disney blockbuster. His role? Fly into space to destroy a massive, Texas-size asteroid hurtling toward Earth.

It may be a long way from such small treasures as Chasing Amy and Good Will Hunting--which nabbed Affleck and lifelong Boston buddy Matt Damon the Academy Award--but the young Hollywood "it" kid's next trick could be to supplant Willis, Schwarzenegger and Stallone as the nation's number one superhero.

In Armageddon, Affleck plays A.J., a cocky oil wildcatter who, along with Bruce Willis, is given the simple task of saving the planet from total destruction.

He not only gives the asteroid a run for its money, Affleck sends his aging, balding costar scattering all over the universe. He also flexes his sweaty heartthrob muscles opposite Liv Tyler. Oh, and he gets an action figure as part of the deal, too.

out. He's already completed work on Kevin Smith's Dogma, the low-budget 200 Cigarettes with Courtney Love and the romantic comedy Shakespeare in Love, coincidentally costarring girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow.

And he and Damon are about to start working on their next script, which is not likely to involve deadly rocks of any kind.
