(Joseph Louis Barrow; 1914-81), boxer. Called the "Brown Bomber," Louis put his title on the line twenty-five times and held it longer than any other heavyweight champion. He won the championship in 1937, defeating James Braddock, and retired in 1947 at age thirty-four. His efforts at a comeback in 1950 were thwarted by defeats at the hands of Ezzard Charles and Rocky Marciano.
