(Robert Tyre, Jr.; 1902-71), golfer. Jones dominated golf by winning thirteen major championships in an amateur career that lasted only eight years. These included the U.S. Open four times, the British Open three times, and the U.S. Amateur five times. His record sweep in 1930 of the U.S. Open, British Open, U.S. Amateur, and British Amateur (collectively known as the Grand Slam of golf) has never been equaled. Jones established the Masters' Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, in 1934.
