The Great American History Fact-Finder

Hart, Moss

(1904-61), playwright and director, best known for the sophisticated comedies he wrote with George S. Kaufman. Hart's first hit was the Hollywood spoof Once in a Lifetime (1930). Other successes included the Pulitzer Prize-winning farce You Can't Take It with You (1936) and The Man Who Came to Dinner (1939). Hart also wrote screenplays and directed the stage productions of My Fair Lady (1956) and Camelot (1960).
