Dulles, Allen

(1893-1969), diplomat and government official. Dulles served the U.S. government in many posts. He worked in the Office of Strategic Services during World War II and during the cold war was appointed director of the Central Intelligence Agency. His involvement in the Bay of Pigs invasion, which resulted in failure, prompted his resignation. He was the younger brother of John Foster Dulles.
