(1878-1942), composer, actor, and producer. During Cohan's lifetime, he wrote more than forty plays and musicals, and produced, directed, and starred in most of them. Extremely patriotic, he stirred up audiences with his flag-waving enthusiasm. In 1904 he produced Little Johnny Jones, which featured "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy." In 1906 he composed "You're a Grand Old Flag" and in 1917 a song honoring the
American Expeditionary Force titled "Over There." Congress presented Cohan with a special medal of honor in 1940 for these two songs.
